Filipino ice skating prodigy Ana Isabel “Issai” Villafuerte is set to return home early Thursday morning following her successful stint from recent US figure skating competitions where she bagged eight gold medals.

The 13-year-old ice skater is due to arrive at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport on board a Philippine Airlines flight around 5 a.m.

The 5’7” Camarines Sur native is the first Philippine-born ice skater to qualify to compete in the US Figure Skating Association (USFSA) sanctioned competitive events. She qualified in 2007 after undergoing a series of rigorous tests conducted by the USFSA.

Aside from her successful stint at the Broadmoor Open in Colorado Springs, Colorado last June, she also had a victorious campaign at the Ice Skating Institute “Skate Beijing 2007″ in Beijing, China.

In the Broadmoor Open from June 24-28, Villafuerte won three golds, a silver and a bronze. She won against seven other competitors in the freestyle, artistic and spin events.
